SUBJECT:
Emergency Appraisal Audit REF:
- 1) NRC Report 82-01
- 2) P-82025 January 25, 1982

- 4) P-82175 June 2, 1982
Dear Mr. Collins:
We are in receipt of your letter of June 11, 1982 transmitting the results of the-Emergency Preparedness Appraisal.
Your letter referenced a response to Appendix A. and Appendix B items within thirty (30) days of the date of your letter.
As you are aware, References 2,
3, and 4 above already address the Appendix A items, and in this respect we do not feel any further correspondence is required for Appendix A.
Concerning Appendix B,
we have made a preliminary review of the items, and due to the nature and number of the NRC comments we do not feel it is realistic to respond in 26 days.
(We aid not receive your l
letter until the afternoon of June 14). To complicate.our response we also are trying to react to our recent emergency exercise which also dictates the need for corrective action.
In this light, we hereby request that the response time for Appendix B be extended to sixty (60) days from the date of your letter to allow us to l
coordinate both your commerds and problems resulting from the exercise.

j i We would also like to take this opportunity to discuss a' continuing
]
problem of response dates to NRC -Inspection Reports.
The report 1
always keys the response date to the date of-your letter, and we-have
- found that we can experience anywhere from three (3) to ten (10) days
~
delay in receiving your letters.
By the time we receive them,.
distribute them, and attempt to coordinate a response the response date is upon us.
In short, if response dates are to be keyed to the date of your letter a reasonable amount of time should be allowed for delivery and response. We lo not= feel a reasonable time is presently being allotted.
L l
We appreciate your consideration in these matters.
Very truly yours,
[
