Portland General Electric Company Docket No. 50-344 Trojan Nuclear Power Plant

IMPOSITION OF CIVIL PENALTY - $50,000 By EN 82-17, dated May 28, 1982, the Commission was notified of the intent of IE to issue a Notice of Violation and Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalty in the amount of Sixty Thousand Dollars to the Portland General Electric Company.
The proposed penalty was based on an alleged violation that concerned having one emergency diesel generator inoperable when required. The licensee responded to the Notice in a letter dated July 2, 1982. After consideration of the licensee's response, the IE staff concluded that the violation occurred as set out in the Notice. The staff also concluded that the licensee upon discovery of the violation took prompt and comprehensive corrective action, therefore, a mitigation of Ten Thousand Dollars is warranted. Accordingly, an Order Imposing Civil Monetary Penalty in the amount of Fifty Thousand Dollars has been issued today. Under the terms of the Order, the licensee may, within 30 days of the date of the Order, pay the civil penalty or request a hearing. The licensee and the State of Oregon will be notified.
Since this matter involves mitigation of the civil penalty, a news release will be issued about the tire the licensee receives the Order.
