Dear Mr. Haynes:

NRC lE BULLETIN NO. 82-01 REV. 1 DATED MAY 7, 1982

" ALTERATION OF RADIOGRAPHS OF. WELDS IN SUBASSEMBLIES" UNIT NO. 1 HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION i

I In reply to IE Bulletin No. 82-01, Rev. 1 dated May 7, 1982, we report the following:

A one hundred percent review, as required by the bulletin, was made of the radiograph sets representing the welds as-sociated with pipe wall thickness less than 1/2 inch in shop t

fabricated quality Class 1 and 2 subassemblies provided by Associated Piping and Engineering Corporation.

This review included the reactor recirculation loop piping furnished by Associated Piping and Engineering Corporation for Hope Creek Units 1 and 2.

The specific spools per unit involved were:

A.

RS-A3 and RS-B3 - Each includes two (2) welds in the decontamination connection..

B.

RD-Al, RD-B1, RD-A2, and RD-B2 - Each includes one (1) welded cap of the deleted by-pass lines.

i Each unit, therefore, contains eight (8) 4" N.P.S. Sch. 80 (0.337" Nominal Wall Thickness) butt welds, or a total of sixteen (16) welds for Units 1 and 2.

The review of the No. 2 Unit piping assemblies was completed in view of their potential use as spare parts.

7/30/82 The investigation found no artificial enhancement of the ASME Code penetrameter images.. In all cases, the ASME Code penetrameter sensitivity was clearly discernible and the weld quality acceptable.
