FILE: 0505.16/0935.4 SERIAL: 18401
Enclosure:
(1) Probabilistic Analysis to the Adequacy of the Midland Plant Tornado Missile Protection.
As stated in Section 3.5.2 of the Midland SER and again in the June 1982 SER Supplement 1, CPCo's position is that specific tornado missile protection for certain areas of the auxiliary building is unnecessary because of the low probability of missile damage resulting from the inherent protection by other plant structures. At a June 11, 1982 meeting with the Staff, CPCo/Bechtel provided the details of a deterministic study of the inherent tornado-missile protection afforded.
In addition, CPCo/Bechtel provided the preliminary results of a probabilistic study performed to substantiate our position and committed to provide a complete report as soon as possible.
Pursuant to this commitment, the enclosed report is forwarded for Staff review. Af ter review of the eaclosed report, CPCo is confident that the Staff will agree with our position that no further tornado missile protection is required and therefore will be able to closeout SER Open Item 3.
