Mr. Robert T. Carlson, Chief Reactor Construction & Engineering Support Branch i
U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region I 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, Pennsylvania 19406 NRC Inspection No. 78-12 7
Shoreham Nuclear Power Station - Unit No. 1 (V
i Docket No. 50-322
Dear Mr. Carlson:
My letter you, SNRC-332 of October 18, 1978, contained in part our response to NRC Finding 322/78-12-01, undersized welds on pipe spool slip-on flanges, reported in the enclosures to your letter of August 30, 1978.
This letter modifies portions of that response.
i My earlier letter indicated that, as a result of a sampling inspection, all accessible pipe spool slip-on flange j
welds would be reinspected, and that those found deficient would be repaired to meet ASME III requirements.
Subsequent evaluation l
of the sampling inspection results has revealed that the copper i
nickel and stainless steel slip-on flange welds are acceptable
{,
and that rejectable weld defects were identified only on Class 151 and Class 301 slip-on flange welds.
Accordingly, only Class 151 and i
l Class 301 slip-on flange welds will be 100% inspected, and those j
found deficient will be repaired to meet ASME III requirements.

Full compliance is still expected by February 1, 1979.
Very truly yours, 7
