IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE
'On January:12k'1990, we responded to Gemric Letter 89-13,
'" Service Water System problems Affecting Safety-Related Equipment."- We proposed a number of actions in response to the
. issues presented in the' letter.as well as a schedule for implementation.
The-purpose of this, letter is-to update you on our progress in implementing' selective actions in response to Action Item II of the letter.
We committed to performing a.100% tube cleaning and 20% tube 4
inspection.of the C and D Component. cooling Water. heat exchangers f
during the: 1990. Point. B6ach Unit : 2 outage. t We have completed
?
this cleaning.and_ inspection with no noted tube degradation.
The
.present yearly? cleaning and alternate year inspection schedule are2a part of our' heat exchanger inspection program.

maintenance:-outage.. The same cleaning, inspection and testing j
- was planned-for Gol during the spring 1991 diesel maintenance U
outage.- Our present plan is to replace the glycol / service water heat exchangers-for G01 during the G01 spring 1992 maintenance Loutage and for G02 during the G02 summer 1991 maintenance outage.
The coolers are and will continue to be monitored during biweekly p'
operability testing of the diesel generators.
The monitored parameters are. trended to determine if any degradation of the
> heat' transfer capability is occurring so that corrective action 4
can be taken prior'to'significant degradation of cooler 9011290135 901115 PDR ADOCK 050002A6 f.()

Do'cument Control Desk November 15, 1990 Page 2 capability.
In view of our plans to replace the coolers and the biweekly testing, we determined that the cleaning and inspection was not necessary.
In addition, we committed to instrument the spent fuel heat exchancers to n.onitor heat transfer capability during the Unit 2 fall 1990 refueling outage.
Since this modification is not outage related we have delayed the scheduled installation of the instrumentation to prior to December 31, 1990.
Parts are onsite and final design is proceeding on this schedule.
Both spent fuel pool heat exchangers were inspected during this year for the first time in nearly twenty years of operation and were found to be in excellent condition.
Therefore, this schedule delay will have no impact on the heat exchanger operability.
We trust these schedule changes will not impact your revinw of our response to this generic letter.
As requested in ths
. neric letter we will inform you within 30 days of implementatior
' f the final item.
Very truly yours, C.W.
