Re:

Houston Lighting & Power Company South Texas Project, Units 1 and 2 (Docket Nos. 50-498A and 50-499A)

Gentlemen:

Pursuant to 10 CFR SS2.711(a) and 2.740b(b), Houston Lighting & Power Company moves the Board for an extension of the time in which to either respond or object to interrogatories and document requests of the Depa5tment of Justice.

On November 22, 1978, the Department served Houston with its First Set of Interrogatories and Requests for Production of Documents.

Houston's responses and objections are due on December 22, 1978.

Houston moves for an extension of time until January 15, 1979.

As good cause for this motion, Houston asserts that these interrogatories and requests for production in part require investigation and file searches back to 1965 and in one case back to 1950.

Due to the scope of the demands and the press of the holiday season, Houston despite diligent efforts is unable to respond or object by December 22.

Houston anticipates that it will be able to do so by January 15.

The Department of Justice has no objection to this motion.

Respectfully submitted, 01&~
