Dear Mr. Fairchild:
2 Week before last the Mechanical Engineering 'epartment recommended Ic D
that we convert our AGN-201 training reactor to a simulator as a 7
possible solution to the long-term utilization in a program reduced in scope for our nuclear engineering option.
Our plan would be to 3
remove the fuel from the core and either store it in a locked vault j
or ship it wherever the NRC requires. Our interest at this time is in knowing about the feasibility of this proposal in light of the prospects of being ireed from regulations, inspections, reporting, etc.

I understand that this could either involve converting the present license to possession only, or filing an application for permanent

decomissioning of the reactor. There is only a remote possibility
)
that we would ever want to put it back into operation, but need your advice on the proper procedures.
r The indemnity fee on our license (S100) for a one year period is 3
subject to renewal on December 14; therefore, a prompt response I
would be helpful.
