Dear Mr. Chairman:

At our June 10 hearing, NRC staff were unable to answer basic questions as to the state of progress in the Zimmer Quality Confirmation Program.

Moreover, there has been an inordinate delay in responding to my letter of June 14 asking for information that was not provided at the hearing.

I fear the inability to answer questions and the delay in responding to my letter support the conclusion that Region III staff are insufficiently aware of the status of the Zimmer project.

I would appreciate a response to my June 14 letter by July 16.
