Dear Sir:
A limiting condition for operation (LCO), 3.7.8.1 of the Trojan Technical Specification, requires that a special report be provided in the event of inoperability of the fire suppression system. System operability as defined by Paragraph C of the referenced LCO was not met ~when a section of the yard loop was isolated to search for an underground leak. The leak was discovered October 3, 1978, and the yard loop isolated at that time.
Subsequent investi-gation of the leak revealed that it was in an underground potable water line and not in the yard loop as originally suspected. The yard loop was re-turned to service October 4, 1978.
Isolation of the yard loop resulted in the normal flow path of water to the emergency diesel generator rooms' sprinkler systems being interrupted.
How-ever, by providing a hard-piped temporary sprinkler supply from an adjacent hose station, we provided protection to the emergency diesel generator rooms.
In addition, sufficient temporary hose stations were supplied to ensure pro-tection of non-safety-related areas as well.
