ORDER On September 20, 1990, the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District and the Scientists and Engineers for Secure Energy each filed a " Comment on Proposed No Significant Hazards Consideration Determination and Petition to Intervene and Request for Hearing" (" petitions") regarding a proposed amendment to the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station operating license.

Reg. 34098 (Aug. 21, 1990).

On October 3, 1990, the Commission issued an Order requesting the NRC Staff

(" Staff") and the Long.

Island Lighting Company, the licensee, to respond to certain I

issues raised in the petitions by October 17, 1990.

On October'5 H 12, 1990, the Staff filed an unopposed motion for an extension of time to and including October 24, 1990.

Pursuant to 10 C.F.R. 2.772(b), that request is hereby granted.

In a related matter, the Long Island Power Authority has also submitted comments on the proposed license amendment which are hereby accepted as an amicus curiae filing.

The Chairman of the Commission has also received i

letters commenting on issues related to this proposed license amendment from tha chairman of the Council on Environmental Quality, dated October 9, 1990, and the Secretary of Energy, dated September 19, 1990.

The Commission invites those officials to file on the record any comments they wish the Commission to consider.

The Commission will accept those comments as an amicus curiae.

Any such comments should be received by the Commission no later than the close of business Friday, November 2, 1990.
