Letter, NacDonald to Leonard, dated September 14, 1990 l
Your referenced letter inquired concerning the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) intentions on renewal of the UC-609 package design, Certificate of Compliance Number 9932.
4 We desire renewal of the 9932 designs however, we are in the process of i
recertifying this and other older designs to current regulations, and upgrading all Safety Analysis Reports for Packaging (SARPs). We are only part way through this process and will not have a revised SARP ready for submittal for quite some time. For this reason, we would request a two-year extension on the expiration date to allow us ample time to complete this updated work.
We have-not found any problems that would warrant cancellation of the DOE or NRC Certificates.
For the record, in the last five (5) years there have been 57 shipments in the 9932 package. There were no incidents or accidents with these r
shioments.
The maintenance, testing and quality assurance requirements of the SARP have been accomplished and documented.
