Letter SNRC-586 dated 6/11/81
Dear Mr. Denton:
In accordance with the NRC's position contained in NUREG 0737, Item II.K.3.13, the Long Island Lighting Company agreed to provide automatic restart capability for the Reactor Core Isolation Cooling System following trip at reactor high water level.
Restart would be initiated upon reactor water level again reaching the low level initiation point.
To this end, LILCO, via the reference letter, provided con-ceptual design details and a commitment to install this feature, to the extent possible, prior to fuel load.
The NRC found this acceptable as documented in Supplement No. 1 to the Safety Evaluation Report, and this item was classified " Approved pending confirmation."
The purpose of this letter is to advise you that installation and preoperational testing of this modification has been completed.
LILCO requests that confirmatory actions be initiated as deemed appropriate by the staff so that this item, II.K.3.13, can be completely closed on the Shoreham docket.
Should you have any questions, please contact this office.
Very truly yours, Sk l
