20555 NRC DOCKETS 50-321, 50-366 OPINATING LICENSES DPR-57, NPF-5 EDWIN I. HATCH NUCLEAR PLANT AMENDMENT 8 TO FIRE PROTECTION REPORT Centlemen:
g Geor'gia Power Company has amended its " Evaluation of the Hatch 1
Nuclsar Plant Fire Protection Program" by revising the fire wall delin-e cations shown in Figures 4 and 21 of the subject report for the trans-former and switchgear rooms.
These walls are constructed of hollow 8 inch concrete blocks which can be given a fire resistance rating of 2 hours2.314815e-5 days
5.555556e-4 hours
3.306878e-6 weeks
7.61e-7 months
according to the NFPA Fire Protection Handbook, 14th edition.
The doors,in these walls are 3 hour3.472222e-5 days
8.333333e-4 hours
4.960317e-6 weeks
1.1415e-6 months
rated doors, the penetrations in these walls nie scaled with seals that have been qualified for 3 hour3.472222e-5 days
8.333333e-4 hours
4.960317e-6 weeks
1.1415e-6 months
fire resistance ratings.
Ducts that pass through these walls have fire dampers that are 3 hour3.472222e-5 days
8.333333e-4 hours
4.960317e-6 weeks
1.1415e-6 months
rated.
Each of these rooms has smoke detectors.
The fire loading for each of these rooms is given on Page 11 of the subject report. Since the fire loading is small, a fire is not expected to be capable of breaching the valls.
This amendment also includes changes in the text to appropriately refer to the revised figures.
Amendment 4 to the evaluation removed the zone markings around the water analyses rooms and changed them to a 3 hour3.472222e-5 days
8.333333e-4 hours
4.960317e-6 weeks
1.1415e-6 months
designation.
This
._ amendment revises Figures 3 and 20 to reflect the water analyses room walls as they were prior to Amendment 4.
The fire loading in each of these rooms is minimal.
The Unit 1 water analysis room has,1 cable tray which carries 14 circuits and 2 cabla trays with interlocked armor cable. The Unit 2 water analysis room has 1 cabic tray which carries only 2 flexible metal conduits.
Thus the fire loading in these rooms is not considered to be significant.
This amendment also contains other clarification and revisions to the report.
All of these revisions have been reviewed by the Plant Review Board and based on the considerations mentioned above, it was determined that the changes do not degrade the fire protection program.
