SUBJECT:
REGULATORY GUIDE DEVELOPMENT Enclosed-is a copy of our final Staff Technical Position (STP) " Design of-Erosion Protection Covers for Stabilization of Uranium Mill Tailings Sites."
This STP.has been under development for several years' and includes information obtained from'recent technical assistance performed for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff.
We request that a regulatory guide (or guides) be developed, using this STP-as a basis. While the STP was written to address uranium mill tailings stabilization, the technical aspects will be generally applicable to other_ waste disposal ~and stabilization programs, including low. level waste..
We, therefore, request that the guidance developed encompass this broader:
-spectrum of programs.
