included 7 Hea dial Action Plan (RAP) reviews, 6' inspection plan reviews, 4 RAP modification reviews, 17 other site-specific reviews, 1 Certification Report review, 3 Surveillance and Maintenance Plan reviews, and 9 reviews of=
documenting its review of DOE's remedial action selection for the Rifle, Green generic items. The NRC staff prepared 6 Technical Evaluation Reports (TERs)
River, Ambrosia Lake, Shiprock, Belfield/ Bowman, and Spook sites; and prepared one Completion Review Report (CRR) documenting its review of DOE's remedia1>
action performance at the Canonsburg site.
Inspections of remedial action activities were performed at the Tuba City and Green River sites,. and additional site visits were conducted by NRC technical staff'at the Rifle, Grand Junction, Durango, Canonsburg, Shiprock, Gunnison, and Lowman sites.
The NRC staff also completed 7 reviews of requests for application of supplemental standards at vicinity properties.
In addition to the handling of site-specific casework, the NRC staff completed a number of other significant UMTRA Project actions during the past year. The-DOE /NRC Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was modified to reflect recently.
implemented improvements to the review process and remedial action documentation.
NRC staff guidance on design of erosion protection covers for stabilization of uranium mill tailings sites was completed ~ and published.
A proposed rulemaking to amend 10 CFR Part 40 for general licenses for the custody and long-term care of uranium and thorium mill tailings'disposa1' sites i
was published, and comments were received; a final rule is expected to be published early in FY91. Periodic NRC/ DOE management meetings and: weekly-telephone conference calls have been and will continue to be held totimprove UMTRA Project interactions through discussion of these and other programmatic actions and issues.
