Dear Secretary:
Please register my opposition to the relicensing of Yankee Rowe nuclear po r er plant.
Rowe is the oldest operating plant in the U.S.
and its current license
.is:schedu' led to expire in 2001.
The new rule proposed by the NRC would r+xtend its licene for 20 to 40 more years. This is an unacceptable danger to the people living in the area.
The' plant's design is obsolete and if proposed today would not be allowed to be built. The problems it has with embrittlement of teacott materials makes the plant a " loaded gun," in the words of a former NRC commissioner.
While economic arguments are offered to support license extension, what about thel health and safoty of peoplel Plense,h plant whould be decommissioned as soon as possible.
