"A-Model Implementation Schedule" NRC Docket Nos.

50-215/10_4

Reference:

a) t.etter from T.K. b::huster to US NRC dated:

December 22,.-1989

Dear Sir:

Reference (a) contained our schedule.for implementing the A-Hodel-Program at Commonwealth Edison's Zion Nuclear. Station.

It has.been determined that additional time will be required for completion ofsthe A-Model at Zion-Station.

The revised target date is August 31, 1991.versus the previously

/

specified date of September 30, 1990.

l Although the A-Hodelisoftware has-been physically installed at Zion, l

field. testing, training of station personnel in,its use and~ completion of the I

implementation procedures has been delayed.

Equipment configurations required 1

L for validation of the software have been unavailable, and resulted in the delay.. In addition, station personnel with 16 knowledge necessary to support the field testing, were also responsible for installation of the Radiation j

Monitor Display System (RHDS) required by the' Zion: Detailed Control Room-Design Review.

Hhen'the above delays were realized, corporate A-Model Project personnel were reassigned to the A-Model pro'ects for the Quad Cities and' Dresden nuclear stations to add asturance that the commitment' dates of'Harch 29, 1991 and May 31, 1991 respectively will be e' ached.:

Compensatory measures are in place and available,;if needed.

Some of-'

l these measures are:

1) manual effluent and dose.projectlon, procedures'2)

L the C-Hodel, a manually entered computer based dose projection pr_ogram.-

The 1

l' C-Hodel is operated.from c ;her the onsite TechnicaleSuppor t Center (TSC)1or the Emergency Operations facillty (EOF) on a non-real time: basis.

3)- Control Room personnel may use decisional aids based on plant parameters.available to the operator in the Control Room.

These' decisional aides reside within Station procedures and are available to the operator'in!the interim' period.

i between'the initiation of an event and activation of the TSC or EOF.
