EXAMINATION REPORT During the week of September 27, 1993, the NRC administered initial license examinations to employees of your company who had applied for licenses to operate the Point Beach Nuclear Plant. At the conclusion of the examination, preliminary findings were discussed with those members of your staff identified in the enclosed report.
Four applicants were administered reactor operator (RO) examinations, two of whom were administered retake examinations. Three applicants, one an upgrade, were administered senior reactor operator (SRO) examinations.
Three R0 and three SRO applicants passed the examinations. One R0 applicant failed the written examination.
A review of this examination and recent past written examinations conducted at Point Beach Nuclear Plant revealed a large number of deficiencies in the applicants' knowledge relative to other sites within Region III (see paragraph 3a). This indicates a weakness in your training program for licensed operators and warrants further attention by your staff.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
