Subject: Inspection No. 50-333/93-25

This letter refers to the safety inspection conducted by Ms. Laurie Peluso of this office on

October 18 - 22, 1993, of activities authorized by NRC License No. DPR-59 at the

J.A.FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant, Lycoming, New York and the J.A.F Environmental

Laboratory, Fulton, N.Y., and to the discussions of our findings held by Ms. Peluso with

Mr. B. Barrett and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection, involving your Radiological Environmental

Monitoring Program, are imponant to public health and safety and are described in the NRC

Region I Inspection Repon which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records,

interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.

Within the scope of this inspection, we noted that your Radiological Environmental Sersices

Department in cooperation with the Niagam Mohawk Power Corpontion's Environmental

Protection Department continues to maintain an excellent Radiological Environmental

Monitoring Progmm. No safety concerns or violations of NRC requirements were identified

in your progam.
