This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. A. D. Gaines, and the
inspectors identified in the enclosed report, of this office on January 3-7,
1994. The inspection included a review of activities authorized for your

River Bend Station facility. At the conclusion of the inspection,. the.

findings were ' discussed with those members of your staff-identified in the

enclosed report.

Areas examined during the inspection are. identified in the report. Within

these' areas, the inspection consiste i of selective examinations of procedures

and representative. records, interviews with personnel, and observation of
activities in progress. The results of this inspection are documented in thc
enclosed report.

We note that person-rem exposure at River Bend continues to be.high. We
encourage your efforts to address this matter such as the source term
~
reduction efforts and increased emphasis on ALARA initiatives.
Continued
management attention to address this matter over the'long term appears
warranted.
