Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant

  • Docket Nos. 50-282, 50-306 Subiect: PROPOSED IMPOSITION OF CIVIL PENALTY - $50,000 DEMAND FOR INFORMATION This is to inform the Commission that a Notice of Violation and Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalty in the amount of $50,000 will be issued on or about January 26, 1994 to Northern States ,

Power (NSP) Company. This action is based on the findings of a Department of Labor Administrative Law Judge that a contractor for NSP, Burns International Security Service, discriminated .

against an employee for raising safety concerns. The discrimination included termination. A Demand for Information is also being issued requiring the licensee to inform the NRC of actions it has taken to mitigate the consequences of this violation. A Severity Level III NOV, without a Civil Penalty, and a Demand for Information also will be issued to Burns on the same date.

It should be noted that the licensee has not been specifically informed of the enforcement action. The schedule of issuance and notification is: ,

The State of Minnesota will be notified. ,

The licensee has thirty days from the date of the Notice in which to respond. Following NRC evaluation of the response, the civil penalty may be remitted, mitigated, or imposed by Order. <
