Dear Dr. Murley:
Reference 2 transmitted the results of a Safety Related Check Valve Audit conducted by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for Bymn Station. Based upon the results of the audit, five concems were identified. Response to these concems were pmvided by Commonwealth Edison Company (CECO) in reference 1. CECO actions identitied in reference I were completed as anticipated, with the exception of a portion of Concem #5; The following pmvides clarification as to the current status of that item.
Concem #5 addressed, " Corporate Nuclear Operations Directive (NOD-TS.9) allows for the use of the IST pmgnun testing as an indicator of check valve degradation in lieu of disassembly and inspection or diagnostic testing. The NRC Staff sequest ;ustification for using the IST progmm for this purpose."
CECO's response in part stated, " NOD-TS.9 will also be revised to clarify this position and delete the statements regarding deferral of check valve program inspections and diagnostic testing in lieu of IST testing by January 1,1994."
