.o NOV 0 5 tE3 Lancaster Glass Company License No. SUB-1063 (terminated)
ATTN: Mr. David A. Gillimore Docket No. 040-08071 (terminated) i President-240 West Main Street P.O. Box 70 Lancaster, OH 43130-0070
Dear Mr. Gillimore:
This refers to the special inspection conducted by Mr. D. G. Wiedeman of this office on September 30, 1993, of your facilities located at 220 West Main.
Street, Lancaster, Ohio.
Licensed activities were previously authorized by Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Source Material License No. SUB-1063. The results of our findings were discussed with you and Messrs.- D. Ehnot, K. Cassidy and A. Link at the conclusion of the inspection. This also refers to the telephone conversation between Mr. D. G. Wiedeman and D. Ehnot on November 1,1993, regarding the results of our smear tests for removable contamination taken at the time of the inspection.
The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during the inspection.. The inspection consisted of a selective examination of representative records from the former license file, observations, independent measurements, and interviews with current employees of Lancaster Glass l
Company. Based upon this inspection, we have concluded that the former manufacturing areas of the plant were properly decommissioned and meet the current NRC criteria for release of facilities for unrestricted use. However, during the inspection we found three pounds of raw stock material. (uranium oxide) still in their original shipping containers, stored in a second floor storage room.
It was our understanding that arrangements would be made.to transfer this material to an authorized recipient as soon as possible.
Within 30 days from the date of this letter, please provide this office with l
. written confirmation that all uranium oxide was transferred to an. authorized' recipient.
i
.In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter, the enclosures, and your response to this letter will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
