ASME SECTION XI PUMP AND VALVE INSERVICE TESTING PROGRAM The staff is in receipt of your letter dated December 28, 1993, which you submitted in response to the staff's letter to you dated October 28, 1993.
The staff's letter recommended that you pursue development of nonintrusive techniques for certain check valve testing so that the testing could be completed under flow conditions.
In your letter, you stated that you will attempt to utilize a nonintrusive radiographic technique for two of the subject valves.
If that approach is successful, you intend to revise the related relief request (VRR-4) to formally incorporate the technique into your Inservice Testing Program.
The staff agrees with your approach because exercising the valves with flow is preferred over disassembly and inspection. The staff has already granted relief for the valves in question, and you are still within the bounds of the granted relief. Therefore, the staff has no questions or concerns regarding your planned approach.
