DOCKET NUNBER 50-483 CALLAWAY PLANT NRC BULLETIN 90-01 AND SUPPLEMENT 1: LOSS OF FILL-OIL IN TRANSMITTERS MANUFACTURED BY ROSEMOUNT
References:

ULNRC-2817, dated July 7, 1993 2.
ULNRC-2766, dated February 23, 1993 3.
ULNRC-2255, dated July 18, 1990 The above references addressed the requested reporting requirements in Bulletin No. 90-01 and-Supplement 1 concerning failure of Rosemount transmitters.
During recent teleconferences with the NRC Staff members, additional information was requested regarding our completion of the changeout of the seven auxiliary feedwater pump discharge flow transmitters (AL-FT-0001, AL-FT-0002, AL-FT-0003, AL-FT-0004, AL-FT-0007, AL-FT-0009, and AL-FT-0011), and requalification training for licensed personnel to retain confidence in their ability to detect future failures caused by loss of fill-oil in Rosemount transmitters.
As discussed during the telecon the last auxiliary feedwater pump discharge flow transmitter (AL-FT-0007) was replaced on December 15, 1993.
Also the discussion regarding the requalification training is described below:
Training on Rosemount instrumentation failures has been incorporated into licensed operator initial training' courses.
In addition, this issue has been discussed in licensed operator requalification training.
Training on instrumentation failures is an on-going feature of Callaway's. Licensed Operator Requalification Program.
The retraining provided to operators in this area is designed to reinforce the 1

The-Reactor Operator / Senior Reactor Operator Job and Task Analysis currently requires, as a minimum, that eleven different instrument failures be covered every two years.
These required instrument failures include instrumentation that utilize Rosemount transmitters.
In the last two year requalification cycle, at least 20 instrument failures were incorporated into simulator scenarios.
In summary, we are confident that Callaway's Licensed Operator Requalification Program is sufficient to maintain operator knowledge and skills necessary to not only detect current and future failures caused by loss of fill-oil in Rosemount transmitters, but also j
detect other instrument failures.
If there are any additional questions on the above, please contact us.
