This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. W. M. McNeill of this office
!
and Mr. S. Bloom of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation on September 27
I
through October 1, 1993. The inspection included a review of activities
l

authorized for your Fort Calhoun Station facility. . At the conclusion of the
t
inspection, the findings were discussed with you and those members of your
!
4
staff identified in the enclosed report.
Areas examined during the inspection _are identified in the report. The areas
!
included your program pursuant to 10 CFR 50.59 for performing safety.
_
evaluations and the implementation of your program. Within these areas, the
j
inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and.
!
representative records, and interviews with personnel. The results of this
!
inspection are documented on page 1 in the enclosed report.
i
The inspectors identified multiple examples of incomplete evaluations and one
'l
screening required by 10 CFR 50.59 was inadequate. These issues were
!
considered to be a violation of Criterion V of Appendix B to 10 CFR Part 50
and the implementing procedure. This violation is not.being cited because the
!
criteria in paragraph VII.B(1) of Appendix C to 10 CFR 7 art 2 of the NRC's
i
" Rules of Practice," were satisfied, in that, the issues were of minimum
j
safety significance and the licensee took prompt actions to correct tha

problem.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of
l
this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
