Subject: Inspection Number 50-333/93-30
This letter refers to the safety inspection conducted by Dr. Jason C. Jang of this office on
December 13-17,1993, of activities authorized by NRC License No. DPR-59 at the James A.
FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant, Lycoming, New York and to the discussion of our findings
held by Dr. Jang with Mr. R. Barrett and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the
inspection.
Areas examined during this inspection included your radioactive liquid and gaseous effluent
control programs as described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report which is enclosed with
this letter. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures
and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observation by the inspector.
Within the scope of this inspection, we noted that you maintained excellent programs for
radioactive liquid and gaseous effluent control, with the capabilities to protect the public health
and safety and the environment. We noted further that the responsible individuals in the
Chemistry Department had excellent knowledge to implement the above programs. We also
noted excellent management support for upgrading the effluent radiation monitoring systems.
No safety concerns or violations of NRC requirements were observed in your programs.
