Re: Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) l on the Construction / Operation of the CEC j

Dear Sir:

I am writing this l'etter for the public comment on.

the referenced document and urge your office to support the find-ings of the DEIS and to expedite the licensing process for the i

Louisiana facilit.y.

As a professional and had worked in the nuclear in-l dustry for almost all my career until I retired from Westinghouse, l

I find the referenced document a thorough and fair-minded state-

)

ment. I endorse the conclusions as stated because:

\\

i (1) Claiborne Enrichment Center (CEC) would provide a competitive and reliable national source of uranium enrichment services to U.S.

customers especially commercial utlities and would pro-vide a means to negate the dependence on foreign suppliers and j

sources.

(2) The technology to be used in the facility would utilize signi-I ficantly less energy to produce a unit of output than other en-richment process.

i (3) The facility would be a major socioeconomic asset which will provide jobs for a wide range of people in Claiborne Parish.

The socieconomic impact of the no-action alternative is a con-j tinuation of the depressed economic conditions in that area and i

a likely outmigration of skilled and higher income' workers.

~

I am therefore urging your office not only to support these findings of the DEIS but also to expedite the licensing process such that the local parish, the State of Louisiana and the nation will be benefitted.

Very truly yours, 41 Y
