Docket No.52-002 January 10, 1994 APPLICANT: ABB-Combustion Engineering, Inc. (ABB-CE)

PROJECT: CE System 80+

SUBJECT:

PUBLIC MEETING 0F DECEMBER 21, 1993, TO DISCUSS (1) THE NEW SOURCE TERM AND ITS APPLICATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION (EQ) 0F PLANT EQUIPMENT, AND (2) EQUIPMENT SURVIVABILITY FOR SEVERE ACCIDENT CONDITIONS On December 21, 1993, a public meeting was held at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in Rockville, Maryland, between representatives of ABB-CE and its contractor and the NRC. A list of the attendees is enclosed.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the new source term and its applica-tion for EQ of System 80+ plant equipment. Equipment survivability for severe; accident conditions was also discussed.

Source Term Application For E0:

ABB-CE presented the System 80+ equipment that they have determined will be required to meet the equipment qualification requirements in accordance with Regulatory Guide 1.97. In addition, they discussed the proposed mission times of equipment, which in some cases, deviates from current practices. Since the basis for the reduced mission times has not yet been provided in the standard ,

safety analysis report, the NRC staff has not yet determined if the deviations are acceptable. ABB-CE will provide the NRC staff with the associated-basis in January 1994.

jlquioment Survivability For Severe Accident Conditions:

ABB-CE and the NRC staff discussed briefly the issue of equipment surviva- i bility for severe accident conditions and the ABB-CE position on the issue.

The NRC staff will review ABB-CE's position and determine if it is acceptable.
