Dear Mr. Hickey:

l This letter is written in support of the proposed Claiborne 1

Enrichment Center.

As outlined in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement, this f acility is very important to long-term enrichment services in the U.S.

in support of both the commercial power industry and various test and research reactors that provide vital research.

As Chairman of the Nuclear Engineering Program here at Missouri University and as a Research Associate of the MU Research Reactor, I know the importance of enriched uranium to our society.

I am well aware that the U.S.

is again losing its technological competitiveness to foreign countries.

Enrichment services in these countries are less than in the U.S because of the advanced technologies, such as centrifuge technology, that are already employed.

Are we to become dependent on foreign sources for fuel for our nuclear power plants as we are dependent on others for our oil?

We have already witnessed the devastation that this dependency can cause.

We need the Claiborne Enrichment Center and I support its construction.

Sincerely, tv 6 ua44 William H. Miller
