l Dear Mr. Hickey i

I have studied the Draft Env. Impact Statement related to the I

Claiborne Facility and urge immediate approval.

Considering the urgency of increasing our domestic energy supply it's terrifying that congress still hasn't passed legislation to l

facilitate and encourage building nuclear energy plants.

This appears to be a step in the right direction.

i One of the most critical issues that seems to give environmentalists an excuse to oppose Nuclear Energy is the di sposal problem.

In addition to working to obtain approval of the Claiborne facility, please work toward passage of legislation to FORCE the Yucca Mountain study to be concluded quickly.

If we can get one such site approved and operating it should'be much easier to add others.

The disposal problem is not nearly as serious as the radical element claims it to be, and this will become evident as we gain experience.

i I realize some progress has been made in legislation to speed the licensing of Nuclear Plants prior to completion, but more must be done to assure power companies that their Nuclear' plans can't be thwarted or delayed by opposition groups after they've begun c on s t r uc t i on.

I personally believe the GovernmentVnot be involved in Nuclear R&D or in promoting one system over another.

Just' insure that there are no bureaucratic obstacles (including state laws) to t

i pri vate development, and let industry come up with the best i

answers.

Government involvement wastes available funds and manpower on inappropriate approaches and retards inovation.

However, in this case every action that can be taken to obtain the Claiborne Site approval should be expedited.
