Dear Sir:
I have read the abstract draft environmental impact statement for the construction and operation of the Claiborne En*4chment Center to be located near Homer, Louisiana. I am satisfied chat the environmen-tal impact of the plant will be minimal upon the community as a whole. looking forward to the construction of the plant in Claiborne I am Parish, Louisiana. As you probably understand, the public today is inundated with " news" which is nothing more than the social position of the indivi-dual reporter, publisher, or editor as the case may be. " Yellow Journalism" as it was labeled at the turn of the century is now in my opinion the " news" that we are bombarded with on a daily basis. There is a small group of citizens of Claiborne Parish who are genuinely concerned about the impact of the plant upon the environment. Unfortunately, these few citizens do not seem to want to accept scien-tific facts and are being used by persons outside our community with agendas against nuclear energy. While there is merit to scientific conservatism it is necessary that progress in energy development be a primary objective for our nation. We in this parish have personally experienced the decline in oil reserves and no longer can rely upon the hydrocarbon resources that have for many years given this parish an economic base. The Claiborne Enrichment Center offers the promiss of not only new industry but the possibility of future industry development. As science developes unes for the by-product the processing of the by-product could be additional energy sources for the future needs of our country.
