lg 2Sf 321 Timberlake Road Sheboygan. WI 53081 January 4, 1994 Mr. John W. N. Hickey Chief. Enrichment Branch Division of Fuel Cycle Safety and Safeguards Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington. D.C. 20555

Dear Mr. Hickey:

I have read with great interest the Abstract and Summary and Conclusions in the " Draft Environmental Impact Statement" of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission concerning the proposed construction and operation of a uranium enrichr.ent center to be located in the Claiborne Parish in northern Louisiana.

I strongly urge the support of this project as proposed in the site studied and recommended and in expediting the licensing process for this facility.

I an impressed, certainly not surprised, by the indepth study that has been made of all positive and negative impsets on this proposed f acility concerning the economie impact, the environmental impact of construction and operation, and the radiological and non-radiological impacts to the Claiborne parish. The study is comprehensive and complete, and I would suspect would be supported by a majority of citizens in Claiborne as well as involved governmental agencies.

Nuclear energy is critical for the future growth and development of these United States in supplying an adequate, dependable, cost efficient and clean source of energy to all consumers. The voice of activists that predictably oppose nuclear energy as well as many other issues does not represent the majority. although certainly to be heard, and does not represent the best interests of the requirements and needs of this nation.

As retired president of the Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland.

Wisconsin. I have been involved in the development of arsociate degree programs in radiation protection, electrical power, and hazardous materials and I do with this knowledge and background strongly support a f acility such as proposed for Claiborne.

Thank you for the opportunity for this public input.

)

Sincerely.
