Dear Sir:
I am a citizen of Claiborne Parish and I have lived here for 42 years. I worked in the school system for 30 years. I have a small business in the parish and now I am Director of Housing for the City of Haynesville.
I have read the Draft Environmental Statement for Claibome Enrichment Center. I am impressed with the detail of the statement and the types of studies made. I feelcomfortable with the results.
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the plants in Europe. I was so impressed with the cleanliness around the plants, as well as inside. We went through the tours talking with people about the plant and its safety and the economic impact it had on the communities. There were very positive about the plant and its safety, esoecially in Holland where the dairy industry was so evident.
Underemployment is very high in this parish and state. As we educate our youngsters with our tax dollars, they have to go out of this state seeking jobs. There is a constant drain of talent from our community and state. We need jobs that can increase our holding power of our most valuable resource, our youth, in the Haynesville Housing Authority, we have some fine young people who want to work, but can't find jobs. This center would give them new hope and an opportunity for a better life.
I visited with Senator J. Bennett Johnston in his office in Washington, DC. I told him about my experiences in Europe while touring the centers in Holland and Germany. He was impressed to know how I felt about the centers we visited over there. I asked for his continued support for this facility and to help us with the 1-69 highway. This highway would complement our plant and parish, and provide additional safety.
Sir, this facility is very much needed. Those who oppose this facility have reasons other than safety.
Please listen to reason and grant the license for new life for this dying community and state.
Sincerely, y
e
