Mr. John W. N. Hickey 4

Chief, Enrichment Branch Division of Fuel Cycle Safety and Safeguards Office of nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards Us Nuclear Regulatory Commission Mailstop 4-E-4 Washington, DC. 20555

Dear Mr. Hlckey:

My grave concern about our nation's power future leads me to write i

in support of the new CEC to be located in Louisiana. I endorse the 1

position of the DEIS that the facility is needed in the US and the world, and that it presents no threat to health and safety.

I will point out that I am not and never have been connected in any way with the nuclear power industry. I am a retired engineer who has written several books on energy. I have frequently slugged it out with the l

anti-nukes in Vermont as a member of my State Legislature, and in frequent speaking and debating sessions around the state on our national energy predicament.

I am convinced of the world's need for nuclear power and of the l

urgency of overriding the endiess, mindless, unworthy minority opposition to it.

Sincerely, w
