Dear Sir,
I would like to state my support for the construction and operation of the Claiborme Enrichment Center to be located in Claiborne Parish in Louisiana.
This nation has backed off long enough in the develop--
ment of nuclear electrical power.
The completion and opera-tion of the Claiborne Enrichment Center would be another step forward.
Why do I feel this way?
Let me give you just'one of a
number of reasons.
I am thinking as to the future for my, j
and your, grandchildren.
At the present rate of consumption of natural gas our nation's natural gas reserves will be needlessly exhausted not too many years from now.
l-I There are large electric power plants in this country today that are gulping vast quantities of natural gas.
That gas could be so much more effectively used.for home heating fifty years from now.
You know that nuclear fuel today could be used to generate electric power just as cheaply as the nation's limited supply of natural gas.
As a side issue, Mr. Hickey, I am sure that there are many Senators in Washington D.C.
today who appreciate the truth in what is said above.
But you also know that most such senators would vote against nuclear energy just to " buy" the votes of uninformed (ignorant?) voters in their home state.
I am for the use of nuclear fuel.
