Proposed LES Uranium Environmental Plant, Claiborne Parish,

{

Homer Louisiana i

Dear Chief of Environment Branch:

)

It is my understanding that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has allowed citizens 45 days or until January 16, 1994 to respond to f

the " Draft Environment Impact Statement."

I have requested a copy of the DEIS report..However having to review this report (DEIS) by January 16, 1994 is not sufficient enough' time to 4

i review and respond to the direct hardship and financial impact on this community.

My family has owned property directly-next to j

the proposed site for over 75 years.

However, we have not received any direct notice regarding the proposed plant. 'The i

placement of this plant next to or adjacent to our property will destroy the area and tranquility of our property and displace a whole community.

i I would ask that the period to respond to the report be extended

]

for a period of six months at a minimum.

1 I am writing to President Clinton, Attorney General Janet. Reno j

and the Environmental Protection Agency to look into the-Environ-1 mental impact on this small Black community.

I have attached a copy of a newspaper article where it'is a state that the Clinton i

Administrator and Congress is concern with environmental justice.

Again, I ask you to extend the response time for at least six months in order that every opportunity is provided for individu-als to responded.

RE:

Proposed LES Uranium Environmental Plant, Claiborne Parish, t

Homer, Louisiana

Dear President Clinton:

I am writing this letter regarding the placement of the above referenced plant in another minority _ community in Louisiana.

My family has owned land in this black community for over 75 years.

j While this plant will be placed adjacent to our property we have not been informed or received official notice of its operation.

A lot of the community is made up of senior citizens who own-1 their homes and will be displaced if this plant is put into oper-i, ation.

i The Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguard has.given citizens 45 days or to January 16, 1994 to review the report.

l This is insufficient time to review this report.

I am asking you, President Clinton, and Attorney General Janet Reno to inves-4 tigate this plant in light of your " Environmental Justice Policy."

"See attached article."

l Thank you for your attention.

j Sincerely yours,

[, (_
