Dear Mr. Hickey:
My name is Bill Richardson. I am a Chemical Engineer with 19 years experience in the chemical manufacturing industry.
My work and academic experience includes work with nuclear energy and nuclear issues.
I hope these comments will persuade you to proceed with the CEC license authorization in prompt fashion.
The great majority of the people I have talked with in north Louisiana and south Arkansas support the construction of the CBC.
The positive impact of this facility far outweighs the extremely small hazard associated with the operation of the CEC.
Claiborne Parish has relatively high unemployment, and many residents must seek jobs outside the parish.
In September, 1993, I attended a public meeting held by CANT (Citizens Against Nuclear Trash) in Homer.
The imported guest speakers could not produce one technically accurate piece of information to support their claims of a dire hazard to the public.
There were only 100 of the 19,400 people in Claiborne Parish in attendance.
This shows a lack of public support for the radical anti-nuclear group which is trying to scare the public.
My questions are about the calculated radiological impacts.
Please understand I support the project, but I am concerned about the methods used to calculate the exposure.
- 1. Were EPA approved computer programs such as AIRDOS, RESRAD and CAP-88PC used for the calculations?
- 2. What is the critical organ for the exposure? My experience with computer modeling of releases showed the endosteum to be the organ with the greatest exposure.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the DEIS for the Claiborne Enrichment Center.
I would like to see the authorization for the CEC license approved soon.
Very truly yours, d
