Claiborne Enrichment Center Inasmuch as 21 percent or more of our Country's electricity is generated in nuclear power plants fueled by uranium enriched to 21 to SN U-235, it le important to have viable and economically competitive domestic enrichment facilities.
The proposed Claibcrne Enrichment Center would enrich uranium up to 5% by a high-tech process substantially mere energy efficient and cost effective than the gaseous diffusion plants.
Abundant uranium ore deposits of commercial grade exist within the 4S contiguous states.
These assets, coupled with competitive domestic enrichment facilities would have high strategic value if world peace is threatened, would add to our industrial base, and would help -aintein a f avoreble d omestic trade balance.
lurtherrore the Cleiberne inrichment Center if built in Claib;rne Parish will infuse hundreds of new jobs covering a wide range of skills, contributing strongly to the economy of this depressed area.
The Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Certer 2;; ears to have adequately analyzed and addressed the im; acts en the area of ccnstruction, operation, and ultimate decc 7.issioning of the facility.
It is urged that the Reguletory Commission suppcrt the findings of the Draft EIS and issue a license to Louisiana Energy Se rvic e s t authorize construction and operation of the proposed facility.
