United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission-7 Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 Gentlemen:
SALEM AND HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATIONS ARTIFICIAL ISLAND SECURITY PIAN TEMPORARY PROTECTED AREA MODIFICATION i
DOCKET NOS. 50-272, 50-311, 50-354 As' described to Mr. Keinig and members of the Safeguards Section staff on August 21, 1990, Public' Service Electric & Gas Company (PSE&G) will construct a new warehouse' facility within the Artificial Island protected area.
To complete this major task with minimal effect upon the Nuclear Security Program, PSE&G is notifying the NRC in accordance with 10 CFR 50.54 (p) of its intent to temporarily modify the protected area to permit-construction outside the protected area.
This arrangement will provide several security benefits and construction program savings.
Security benefits include maintenance.of security measures equivalent to those described in the-Artificial Island Security Plan, reduced personnel, vehicle and material searches and processing, avoidance of construction interferences with lighting and CCTV surveillance,.and very limited compensatory posting and personnel-escorting.
Attachment i depicts'the proposed location of the' warehouse and temporary protected area perimeter relative to the currently approved site configuration. describes the security measures which will be.in force for the duration of the project.
When the project is completed, the protected area will be configured in a new permanent layout, also' depicted in Attachment 1.
A Security Plan revision describing the physical protection features associated with the warehouse and a drawing showing the revised site layout will~be submitted under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.54 (p).
