NOTICE OF VIOLATION l

t Union Electric Company Docket No. 50-483 Callaway Plant License No. NPF-30 i

During an NRC inspection conducted on September 19 through November 20, 1993, I

a violation of NRC requirements was identified.

In accordance with the

" General Statement of Policy and Procedures for NRC Enforcement Actions,"

10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C, the violation is listed below-10 CFR Part 50.72 -(B)(2)(ii) requires that the licensee shall notify the NRC as soon as practical and in all cases within four hours of any condition that results in manual or automatic actuation of any engineered safety feature i

(ESF).

t Contrary to the above, on November 14, 1993, the licensee failed to notify the NRC of an automatic ESF actuation within the four hour time requirement i

(483/93017-01).

This is a Severity Level IV violation (Supplement 1).

Pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 2.201, Union Electric Company is hereby i

required to submit a written statement or explanation to the U.S. Nuclear

Regulatory Commission, ATTN: Document Control Desk, Washington, D.C.

with a copy to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region III, 801 Warrenville Road, Lisle, Illinois 60532 and a copy to the-NRC Resident Inspector at the Callaway Nuclear Power Plant within 30 days of the date of.

the letter transmitting this Notice of Violation (Notice). This reply should be clearly marked as a " Reply to the Notice of Violation" and should include:

(1) the reason for the violation, or, if contested, the basis for disputing the violation, (2) the corrective steps that will be taken and results achieved, (3) the corrective steps that have been.taken to avoid further violations, and (4) the date when full compliance will be achieved.
