Dear Mr. Kinneman:
This refers to your letter dated July 14,1993 concerning Routine Inspection No. 070-03074/93-001 conducted on June 10,1993 by Mr. C.T. Oberg of your Office and the attached Notice of Violation.
The University has reviewed the Notice of Violation and has corrected the non-compliance items cited. In the order the citations are listed in your correspondance:
1.
The University is arranging for the disposal through an authorized waste vendor of the 4 grams of U-233 stored in the safe located in Room 284 C of the Engineering Terrace. We propose to dispose of the material by November 15, 1993.
There has been no.novement of materials in or out of the safe for the past several years. Nevertheless a physical inventory of the materials located in the safe will be conducted quarterly by the Radiation Safety Office.
2.
The University performs a monthly contamination survey and an area survey in all rooms in which unsealed radioactive materials are used. The unsealed materials possessed under License No. SNM-1995 are stored in Room 284 C. Records -
of the Area and Contamination surveys for Room 284 C are enclosed for the months of January 1993 through May 1993.
t Area surveys for those rooms in which sealed sources are stored or used have not been routinely recorded. Since January 1993 however, surveys have been performed during -
leak testing or quarterly inventories. The results of these surveys will now be documented and available for United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) e inspection.

A current copy of the USNRC Notice To Emnlovees has been posted in the areas in which the radioactive materials licensed by the U.S. NRC are used and/or stored. The Notice has been modified to include a statement describing where current copies of Part 19, Part 20 the license, license conditions, documents incorporated into the license, license amendments and operating procedrues may be examined.
