<Jg -FN December 20,1993 Mr. Jchn W. N. Hickey Chief Enrichment Branch Division of Fuel Cycle Safety and Safeguards Office of Nuclear Materials Safety and Safeguards Mail Stop 4-E-4 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555
Dear Mr. Hickey:
Draft Environmental Imoact Statement for the Clayborn Enrichment Center i
I normally would not comment on this statement. However, I understand that the anti-nuclear i
activists from around the country have begun a letter-writing campaign suggesting that the Clayborn l
Enrichment Center would be economically and environmentally harmful to the surwading_
l community and the nation as a whole. Therefore, I decided to write this letter.
I am certain that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has arrived at a valid conclusion in its Draft Environmental Impact Statement. I am also certain that the NRC will anive at the appropriate conclusion in the Staff's Safety Evaluation Report. Evidence of this exists in our society because of the number of successful operating nuclear power plants and other nuclear facilities previously.
licensed by the NRC.
I only hope you continue to not be swayed by groups of people who either: a) have their own agenda of destroying the society we have built up over the last 200 years, or b) are incorrectly concluding that nuclear power presents a danger and an economic disaster for this country.
Thank you for eliciting this response.
Sincerely, l
/
