Dear Mr. Hickey,

I am writing with reference tc the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) on the Claiborne Enrichment Center.

I have read the Abstract and the Summary and Conclusions, and strongly support the proposed facility for the follow-ing reasons:

1.

The gaseous diffusion facilities of the U.S. are uneconomical and not competitive on the inter-national uranium enrichment market.

New centri-fuge facilities comparable to those in Europe would be in the best economic interests of the U.S.

2.

A uranium isotope separation plant is environ-mentally benign.

Even under extreme accident conditions the hazard to the public would be low.

3.

The facility would serve as a valuable economic asset to the local conmunity and its citizens.

I understand that there is some local and external opposition.

I believe that the fears of the people of the area are unwarranted and that claims by outside activists are based on the desire to stop nuclear power, not on real concerns.

Thank you for the opportunity to write in favor of the Claiborne enrichment plant.

Yours truly, W
