Dear Mr Hickey:

I hope you will support the findings of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) concerning construction and operation of the Cl ai bor ne Enri chment Center to be located within the Claiborne Parish in Northern Louisiana.

q 1 have read the summary and conclusions of the DElS, as well as other por ti ons of the Statement.

I believe the Center would be another 2mportant step in further establishing a healthy and viable nuc l ear power industry in the United States.

]

As a retared electrical engineer, I strongly support the nucl ear j

power industry for four reasons. First, it would make our country i nd ermo den t of foreign enerq;y sources.

Second, it woul d help reduce significant sources of air pollution.

Third, dependence on j

curl in Lhls country contributes in an unacceptable way to loss of life end health of those mining this energy source.

And u

4ourth, I' m conu need that in the l ong term, with realistic regulation, it is more economical than any other practical source of energy (other than water power, which is not widely available j

for futire de vel opment in this c ountry).

Ther e are other advantages of the Cl aiborne Enri chment Center -

1 that !iase been set forth in the Statement, including environmental safety of the location, and desirable l oc al employment.

I have li.ed in Louisiena, and am aware of the socio-economic conditions i

prevai32ng in much of the state.

l Agean. I hope you will urge early construction of this enrichment center, as a competitive source of fuel to present and future nuc l ear power plants, which we need for our future growth and j

inde;endence.
