Dear Mr. Hickey:
It is a pleasure to write comments about the Abstract.-
Enclosed please find a briefing paper on the construction and.
operation of the proposed uranium enrichment center within the Claiborne Parish in Northern Louisiana.
I would appreciate sending me a copy of the staff's Safety Evaluation Report when it becomes available to the public.
With my best regards, 1
very truly yours,

E It is intended in this briefing paper on the Abstract to point out, first the benefits of uranium as an energy resource and second the potential' radiation hazards.
It would be beneficial to all, not to experience the past. The benefits of the peaceful use of radioactive materials and how to make it possible to enjoy the benefits. There is certain amount of risk involved and i
environmenta) concerns about it, i
The public opinion has an important effect on decision affecting.the planninc and the construction of a proposed gaseous centrifuge enrichment facility. It is of course particularly important to provide an accurate information to local residents around the facility sites themselves. A well
-informed representation can clearly exert a considerable local influence to l
ensure that the facility is capable of operating safely and efficiently..
r Workers and some of the public are exposed to radiation during these'_
operations. Experiments will be needed to evaluate the facility and tests to reduce the amount of radiation that occurs in-air and the radioactive -
nWrials left on the land.
.' t I
It is inportant to emphasize the need, to. minimize the radiation i
i 6xposure received by.the workers and the public. It is accepted by the sc. mtific comunity that' exposure to radiation can cause damage to,- or
' destruction.of, the cells of living tissues, and no matter how small,.it involves sorr.e risk.

The effectiveness of shield materials are used to either deflect or absorb radiations emitted from sources to provide protection from radiation.
This shielding is essential for protection of both the workers and the public from the sources of radioactive materials. In addition, shielding efficiency -
against radiation is essential. It eliminate most of the background and prevent harm to the workers and people.
The main objectives of this facility is to make the maximum possible benefits from the use of uranium source for its peaceful use and to minimize the radiation exposure received by we'rkers and the public, according to the guidelines of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission: the less radiation the better.
