Dear Mr. Ilickey:
I have reviewed the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Claiborne Enrichment Center (CEC). Based on the very favorable results presented in the DEIS and the need for competitive production ofenriched uranium for the nuclear electric generating stations now operating, I encourage you to do what is needed to get prompt licensing for this project. It is my belief that unless some unexpected, unlikely source of energy makes its appearance in the next five years, we will need to initiate construction of even more nuclear generating stations in the U.S. to provide an environmentally acceptable supply of electricity for the futuse. We will need an efficient and competitive source of enriched uranium to meet existing plants as well as any future plants.
Thank you for your efforts to expedite the licensing and construction of the CEC.
