Dear Mr. Hickey:

I wish to axpress my solid support of the pwposed Claiborne Enrichment Center (GC) that is planned to be constructed in northern Louieiana. This facility would place the United States in a much better position to handle our energy requirements with less dependence on fonign nations.

I have carefully reviewed the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) recently published by the NRC and have concluded that:

b 1.

The CEC would provide a reliable and competitive national source of unnium enrichment services for utilities nationwide.

2.

The GC would definitely be a major socioeconomic asset to the northern f

Louisiana region by providing jobs covering a wide spectrum of skill levels and probably more than doubling the existing annual salary level in the ir:nediate area. This will certainly also create a strong " ripple effect" it.to local industries.

3 The GC design addresses local environmental factors to prevent damage to the facility from severe weather conditions such as heavy rainfall and cyclonie events.

4 Seismic events have also been addressed in the desim, and the site is located in one of the lowest seismic-risk areas in the country.

5 Ibe GC site experiences peak wind speeds of less than 75 miles per hour.

6.

Operation of the GC does not pose a significant threat to public health and.

safety because of plant and process designs and implementation of administrative controls.

7 The DEIS has been prepared in a very thorough manner and addresses all issues adequately.

This country needs to get into a stronger energy position and reduoe our reliance on foreign countries. We are much too heavily reliant on foreign oil.

Iet's not grow further reliant by further hampering our nuclear independonoe.

I urge the NRC to support the findings of the DEIS and to expedite the licensing process of the Ionisiana facility.
