SUGGESi10N FOR MORE EFFICIENT USE OF NRC AND LICENSEE RESOURCES -

The purpose of this memorandum is to suggest a possible improvement in collecting data on spent fuel pool capacity (SFP) that could provide a more efficient use of resources at NRC and licensees.

Twice a year all project managers (PMs) and project directors are contacted to i update spent fuel pool capacity data. I suspect most PMs in turn contact '

licensing personnel at each plant, who, in turn contact someone else for the  ;

information. Perhaps 300 people are impacted by your requests. Recently, the Beaver Valley licensee informed me that all of this information is formally provided by each licensee to DOE within 90 days after each refueling outage.

The information is provided to the Energy Information Administrator on Form RW 859. Perhaps it would be possible for yoer group to coordinate with DOE to get'this information directly from DOE (or perhaps get on licensee's distribution) rather than burdening the licensees (and NRC staff) twice a year  :

in addition to their submittals to DOE.  !
